How to Choose the Right Colors for your Canopy Bed
Canopy beds can overwhelm the design of your room. However, if you choose the right type and the right colors, canopy beds can provide elegance in any bedroom. You can easily accentuate your bed with matching beddings, furniture, and accessories.
The first two things that you need to consider when choosing a canopy bed is the design and the color of your room. If you have a room with a traditional design, elegant canopies will work perfectly. Complete canopies work best especially if you are going to use sheer fabric in shades of white. Cotton and gauzy silk are also pretty options. Take time to do your research so that you will get an idea of the look that you are going for. A popular choice for traditional rooms is a bed made of cherry or mahogany because of its smooth finish and warm colors.
If you have a small room, a canopy bed can make your room look and feel even smaller. What you should then do is use light colors and light fabrics. It will make your room appear larger and will give it an airy feel. Dark colors, especially red, will make your room look like its closing in. You should also avoid heavy drapes, instead use gauzy silk or white lacy drapes. To avoid clutter, use elegant tiebacks to tie the drapes to the bed posts.
Having said that, velvet, and other heavy fabrics, can make your bed look and feel cozy. If you live in an area where the temperature is always cold, you can choose dark colors to match the heavy drapes. Beware of using shades of blue and green which will make your room feel cooler. Better by far to use warm colors, in shades of brown, orange, and red, which will warm up the room visually.
